A Glassy Tribute to Nature
Hugh Allen of Vue De Monde whipped up a stunning dessert in Masterchef Australia – Bottlebrush, gumnuts and Billy Buttons. From ingredient to plate it is an 89 steps recipe.
Now imagine a chandelier, that mimics the subtlest forms of a bottle brush tree in glass and the number of steps that one would require from start to finish!
Were we a tiny bit dead while making this? Yes, we were. But were we revived by the celestial marvel? Yes! Oui!
Crafted from borosilicate glass and stainless steel, the Bottle Brush Chandelier is a testament to the incredible versatility of glass, one- we are happy- we were able to bring to life.
At the heart of this chandelier lies the intricate interplay of various glassworking techniques. Each element, each curve, and each spike, is a result of meticulous craftsmanship and a deep understanding of the material.
The ultimate de-code
Silvering Hot Glass: This technique involves coating the glass with a thin layer of silver, creating a mesmerizing play of colors. The silvered glass reflects light in stunning ways, adding depth and dimension to the chandelier.
Pulling Hot Glass: This technique is used to form the delicate spikes of the bottle brush. By carefully pulling and shaping the molten glass, the artisans achieve the perfect balance of form and function.
Glass Dots and Textures: To mimic the texture of the bottle brush tree, the artisans add glass dots and other textures to the surface of the glass. These details create a sense of movement and vitality, bringing the chandelier to life.
Not just a visual spectacle
The Bottle Brush Chandelier is not just a visual spectacle; it’s also a functional piece of art. Integrated lighting within the glass fixture highlights the intricate details and the play of light and shadow. As the light passes through the glass, it casts beautiful patterns on the surrounding walls and ceiling, creating a truly magical ambiance.
And that is what we wanted to do. We wanted our Bottle Brush chandelier to be an innovative piece that is more than just a lighting fixture. We wanted it to be a work of art that blends function and aesthetics.
In the ID exhibit, when we hung it up, and lit it up- it gave us life.
